The Backstory

My name is Laura Migasiuk, and I am a physician who is reawakening her passion for art.

Growing up, I was constantly immersed in the creative process. Oil paint and charcoal dust were a common part of my day to day. This changed once the gruelling tasks of college, medical school, and residency took over my life. Before long, I was thrown into the harsh realities of hospital medicine during a global pandemic without an outlet to decompress. For various reasons, my love of art had been unintentionally stifled.

It was time for a change.

Why Paint of Heart?

Paint of Heart is a play on the words faint of heart.

I started my Instagram page during a particularly challenging time… one full of expectations, tremendous responsibility, and high pressure. The chronic stressors of work had taken their toll, leaving me discouraged.

Paint of Heart became an outlet and a reminder that in the midst of feeling weary, I needed to take intentional time for myself. Art became tangible proof that beauty can heal.

Style and Mediums

Many believe that an artist must define herself by a particular style and medium… but this rigid perspective takes away from ingenuity, pleasure, and risk.

After such a long hiatus from painting and drawing, I am currently revelling in the freedom that comes from tearing down the walls of art block. I give myself permission to experiment with various subjects, mediums, and colors in ways I would not have in the past.
